If the Savior Stood Beside me
Would I do the things I do?
This is a question I have asked myself a few times this last week. This week has been fun! In this case, fun and productive don't go in the same sentence. It has been a really laid back week that I have honestly not liked. I would much rather work and teach than sit around and do nothing. I have been getting more and more congested as the week has gone on. It has drained down my throat and made me feel even worse than I did before. I'm getting over it all thanks to allergy pills!
Anyway! Some cool and weird things that happened this week! We have this guy named Gary Stone in our area who is a renowned wood relief artist! We tried his door one morning but he wasn't home then had dinner with one of his neighbors! They had a book of some of his paintings and we spent an hour looking through them! Gary takes commissions so now I am going to see if I can get one based on my Mission!
Another thing that happened was just yesterday, we were knocking a doorway out in Hansen and we saw this guy way out there unloading his truck! So we walked over and started to talk to him! There's that comical stereotype where there's a big burly guy who's voice is really high, right? Well, we met him! He was a super funny guy and we got to talk to him for a bit in the 30° weather before it started to snow a ton.
Something sad that happened this week was last night at 7:45. The previous set of elders before I got to this area baptized almost a whole family of people. The Guerrero family. The mom's husband wasn't interested in learning meeting with us but the others were all super interested! We finished teaching them the after baptism lessons last Sunday on the 19th. The husband has been seriously sick these last few weeks and last night at 7:45 he took his last breath. They called the bishop and called us at 8:10 to give us the news. I didn't know how to help them in the moment but did what I could. We are going to visit them Wednesday night and do what we can.
Things change when you begin to love the people you serve around. I know that for sure.
On Sunday one of the counselors in the Bishopric for the 3rd ward caught us and asked if we got the text. We said no because we definitely didn't receive a text. He said that we would be filling in for an adult speaker who couldn't be there that day. He said we could just bear our testimonies which was nice but that they would like it to be on Joseph Smith and the Book of Mormon. We realized we had an hour and a half to "prepare" so that's what we did in the 1st ward, the next ward we had. In that one we were almost impromptu called on to do the same thing. The bishop texted asking if we could fill 5 minutes at the end in the middle of the last talk. We of course said yes and then ended up not having to. But for the 3rd ward I decided to use Mormon 8. Moroni testifies of the record he compiled and then testifies that it will only come to the world under the direction of God. I read that and testified that Moroni knew the book was true and that I know the book is true.
I realized again that day just how important the Book of Mormon is to me. I love it so much. I am going to testify of it every chance I have.
Love you all!
